# Set up your AI Receptionist

Follow this walkthrough to create an AI agent, connect it to a number, and verify it works with a test call.

## Before you start

The receptionist is only as good as what it knows. Fill in **Settings → Business info** first — your business name, what you do, hours, and location. The AI Receptionist uses this to answer callers accurately.

## Create your agent

Open **AI Receptionist** in the left sidebar at [dashboard.limephone.io](https://dashboard.limephone.io) and choose **Create receptionist**. A five-step wizard walks you through everything:

1. **Agent identity** — give the agent a name and pick its role: Sales Assistant, Customer Support, Appointment Scheduler, Lead Qualifier, Virtual Receptionist, or Inbound Sales. Picking a role pre-fills a greeting and instructions based on your business name, so you start from something sensible.
2. **Knowledge** — paste in business knowledge (services, pricing basics, opening hours, directions) and/or a website URL for it to learn from.
3. **Voice settings** — choose the agent's voice and language (12 languages available).
4. **Phone numbers** — choose which of your numbers the agent answers. This is where numbers get connected; the agent steps in according to your availability and business-hours setup.
5. **Advanced** — set the maximum call duration and the silence timeout.

Keep the greeting short and natural — one or two sentences that name your business and offer help.

## Edit an agent later

Open the agent to adjust its settings in an edit dialog: name, greeting (what it says when answering), instructions, voice, language, max call length, end-after-silence, fallback message, and whether to record and transcribe calls. Changes apply to live calls right away.

Note: the edit dialog doesn't include a number picker — connecting numbers happens in step 4 of the create wizard.

## Test it

* Click **Talk to \<name>** on the agent's card for an instant test call in your browser — no phone needed.
* Or call the connected number from another phone. Let the agent answer, ask it a few questions a real caller would, and leave a message with your name and a callback number.

Then open **Call Logs** in the sidebar, find the call, and review the transcript and summary — check that your details were captured.

If an answer was wrong or missing, go back to the agent's knowledge or instructions (or **Settings → Business info**), add what's missing, and test again.

## Reviewing calls day to day

Every AI-answered call appears in **Call Logs** with its recording, transcript, and summary, so you can spot follow-ups and see what your callers actually ask. For questions about your own data, you can also use [Ask LimeAI](/ai-receptionist/ask-limeai.md).
