# Train your AI Receptionist

Give your receptionist accurate business knowledge so it answers callers correctly instead of guessing.

Your receptionist only knows what you tell it. It draws on two sources: your workspace's business information and the knowledge you add to the agent itself. Keep both current and the AI answers like someone who actually works at your company.

## Start with your business information

Open **Settings → Business info** at [dashboard.limephone.io](https://dashboard.limephone.io). The **About your business** card feeds the AI's understanding of your company:

1. **Description** — a sentence or two about what your business is.
2. **Website** — your public site.
3. **Products & Services** — list what you offer, in plain language ("Property sales, rentals, property management"). This is what the AI leans on when callers ask what you do.
4. **Industry** and **Company size** — used to tailor the receptionist's tone and auto-generated instructions.

Save your changes. When you later create an agent, its greeting and instructions are pre-filled from this information.

## Add knowledge to the agent

When you create an agent (**AI Receptionist → Create receptionist**), step 2 of the wizard is **Knowledge**:

1. **Knowledge Base Content** — paste the facts callers actually ask about: opening hours, prices, service areas, directions, common FAQs, policies. Plain text is fine; short factual lines work better than long prose.
2. **Knowledge Base URL** — optionally link a page (your site or docs) for the agent to learn from.

## Edit the instructions

The agent's **instructions** (its system prompt) define how it behaves — what it should say, what it must not promise, and when to take a message. Picking a role in the wizard auto-generates instructions using your business name; you can rewrite them freely.

To change them later, open **AI Receptionist**, click **Edit** on the agent, and update the **instructions** and **greeting**. Changes apply to the very next call.

Tips that make a real difference:

* **State facts, not vibes.** "We're open Mon–Fri 9–6, closed weekends" beats "we have great availability."
* **Set boundaries.** Tell it what to do when it doesn't know: "If you're unsure, take a message rather than guessing."
* **Name your no-gos.** "Never quote exact prices; say a team member will confirm pricing."
* **Keep the greeting short** — one or two sentences that name your business.

## Test after every change

Knowledge edits are only done when a test call confirms them. Use **Talk to \<name>** on the agent's card, ask the questions your callers ask, then fix whatever it got wrong. See [Test your AI Receptionist](https://docs.limephone.io/ai-receptionist/test-your-receptionist).
