# Texting & the SMS inbox

Send and receive SMS and MMS from your LimePhone numbers, and manage every conversation from one place.

## Per-number inboxes

The **Inboxes** section of the left sidebar lists each of your phone numbers, each with its own unread badge. Click a number to open that number's conversation view, with every SMS/MMS conversation as a thread, one per contact. Inside a conversation you can see the full back-and-forth history, reply, and pick up where anyone on your team left off. Messages you exchange also appear in the contact's activity history — see Managing contacts.

Each inbox has **All**, **Unread**, and **Starred** tabs, and from a conversation you can **star**, **archive**, **close**, or **assign it to a teammate**.

## Sending a text

1. Sign in at [dashboard.limephone.io](https://dashboard.limephone.io) and open an inbox.
2. Start a new message.
3. If you have multiple numbers, choose which number to send **from**.
4. Pick an existing contact, or type the recipient's number.
5. Type your message. You can attach media to send an MMS.
6. **Send now**, or **schedule it for later** by picking a date and time.

You can also text an existing contact directly: open the contact in **Contacts** (or find their call in **Call Logs**) and choose the SMS action to start the conversation.

New inbound texts appear in the inbox and in your **Activity** notifications.

> **US texting note:** to text US numbers reliably you need 10DLC registration in **Settings → Trust center**. Unregistered US traffic is filtered by carriers. See SMS campaigns for details.

## Texting from the Android app

The LimePhone Android app has the same inbox. Open **Messages**, start a new message, choose the number you're texting from, and send. You can also open a contact and choose SMS to continue a conversation. Everything syncs with the dashboard inbox.

## Attachments

You can attach images, video, audio, and PDF files — up to 25MB per file via the uploader. Keep in mind that receiving carriers may reject large media, so smaller attachments deliver more reliably.

## Templates

Save messages you send often as templates, then insert them when composing instead of retyping. Templates are grouped by category, and variables in them are filled in automatically from the contact's details. There's also a dedicated **Templates** page where you can create templates, including AI-generated ones. Templates are also available when building SMS campaigns.
