Lists, tags & custom fields

Organize your contacts into lists for campaigns, label them with tags, and define your own data fields.

Lists

Lists group contacts so you can target them together — most importantly as the audience for an SMS campaign.

To manage a contact's lists, open the contact's detail panel in Contacts:

  1. The Lists section shows every list the contact belongs to as a badge.

  2. Choose Add to List and search for the list you want.

  3. To remove the contact from a list, click the × on that list's badge.

You can also filter the Contacts page by list, so it's easy to review who's in an audience before you send to it. There's no bulk add-to-list or in-page list creation right now — contacts join lists one at a time from their detail panel.

Tags

Tags are free-form labels you attach to contacts — "VIP", "supplier", "follow up", whatever fits how you work. Apply them from the contact detail panel, then use them to filter your contacts.

Tags are managed in Settings → Data fields, which shows every tag with how many contacts use it. From there you can:

  • Create a tag ahead of time (e.g. "VIP", "New Lead", "Event").

  • Rename a tag — the rename applies to every contact carrying it.

  • Delete a tag — this removes it from all contacts at once, so check the usage count first.

Custom fields

Define your own contact fields in Settings → Data fields. The page lists the built-in System Fields (first/last name, email, phone, company, address fields, status, source, notes, tags, groups) and lets you add Custom Fields for data specific to your business — an account number, a plan name, a region.

When creating a field you set:

Surfacing custom fields on contacts is limited today; the Data fields page is where you define the structure.

FAQ

Lists vs tags — which should I use? Lists are audiences: they're what SMS campaigns send to. Tags are descriptive labels for filtering and finding contacts. A contact can have any number of both.

If I rename a tag, do I have to re-tag everyone? No — renaming in Settings → Data fields updates the tag on every contact that has it.

What happens to contacts when I delete a list or tag? The contacts themselves are untouched — only the grouping/label disappears. Deleting a tag strips it from all contacts immediately.

Can I import contacts straight into a list? Import creates or updates the contacts; adding them to a list is currently a separate, per-contact step from the detail panel.
