# Managing contacts

Keep every person and company you talk to in one contact book, with their full call and text history attached.

## Where contacts come from

Contacts in **Contacts** (left sidebar) are created a few ways:

1. **Manually** — add a person or company yourself.
2. **Automatically** — contacts can be created automatically from your call and text activity, so your contact book grows on its own.
3. **CSV import** — click **Import from CSV** on the Contacts page and upload a file with a header row (recognized columns: First Name, Last Name or Name, Email, Phone, Company, Status, Source, Notes; each row needs at least a phone or email). Files created by the Export button import as-is.
4. **Via the API** — create contacts programmatically through the [LimePhone API](https://docs.limephone.io/api-reference).

## Adding a contact manually

1. Sign in at [dashboard.limephone.io](https://dashboard.limephone.io) and open **Contacts**.
2. Choose to add a new contact.
3. Fill in the contact's details — name, phone number, and any other information you have, such as email or company.
4. Save.

## Finding and organizing contacts

The Contacts page lets you filter by **tag**, **list**, **status**, **source**, **owner**, or **starred**, and select multiple contacts at once for bulk actions.

You can also **export your contacts to CSV** — the export includes the filtered view, with name, email, phone, status, source, and notes.

## The contact detail panel

Open any contact to see everything in one place:

* **Details** — phone numbers, email, company, tags, status and priority, owner, and list membership.
* **History** — every call and every text conversation with this contact, across all your numbers and team members.
* **Notes** — capture context for your team directly on the contact.

From the panel you can start a call or a text with one click.
