# Buy a phone number

Get a new local, toll-free, or mobile number added to your workspace in a couple of minutes.

LimePhone offers virtual phone numbers in 26 countries. Depending on your plan, one or more numbers may be included — check your plan details in Settings → Billing for what's included and per-number pricing.

## Buy a number from your dashboard

1. Sign in at [dashboard.limephone.io](https://dashboard.limephone.io).
2. Open the **Phone numbers** page. (**Settings → Phone numbers** lists the numbers you already own and links here too.)
3. Choose to add a new number.
4. Pick the number type: **Local**, **Toll-free**, or **Mobile** (some countries also offer **National** numbers).
5. Filter by **country**, **type**, **area code or city** (where supported), and toggle **SMS-enabled** if you need texting.
6. Pick a number you like from the results and add it. A confirmation dialog shows the charge before you buy.

Buying a number is plan-gated — if your plan doesn't include additional numbers, you'll be prompted to upgrade. Once purchased, the number is provisioned to your workspace immediately and appears in Settings → Phone numbers, where you can configure it — see [Manage a number](/phone-numbers/manage-a-number.md).

## Search for a number before signing up

You can browse available numbers on [dashboard.limephone.io](https://dashboard.limephone.io) before creating an account — search by country and area code to confirm we have the number you want, then sign up to claim it.

## Why buy a number in another country?

If your customers are in a particular country, a local number there gives them a familiar, low-cost way to reach you — a caller in London sees a London number rather than an international one. You can hold numbers in several countries at once and route them all to the same team.

## Good to know

* Some countries require identity or address verification before a number can be activated. If a number needs documents, you'll be guided through **Settings → Trust center**.
* Virtual numbers often can't receive bank or 2FA one-time codes — don't rely on a virtual number for account verification with other services.
* To send SMS on US numbers you'll also need 10DLC registration in **Settings → Trust center**; unregistered US texting is filtered by carriers.
