# Call recording

Record calls on a number for training, quality, and compliance — and find the recordings later in Call Logs.

## Enable recording on a number

Recording is set **per number** — enable it on each number you want recorded.

1. Open **Settings → Phone numbers** and select the number. Its settings are organized into tabs: **General**, **Call routing**, **Users**, and **Call recording**.
2. On the **Call recording** tab, turn on **Auto-record calls** — "Automatically record all calls to and from this number". Both incoming and outgoing calls are covered.
3. Optionally turn on **Call recording notification** — an audible notification played when recording starts and stops.

Both toggles save immediately when flipped — no separate save button. If a save fails, the toggle snaps back to its previous position, so what you see always reflects what's actually set.

The number's deeper **Manage settings** page has an expanded Call Recording card:

| Setting | What it does |
| ------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Enable call recording** | Master switch — record all incoming and outgoing calls |
| **Record both parties** | Include both caller and receiver audio in the recording |
| **Play recording announcement** | Tells callers "This call may be recorded" (required for consent in some regions) |

The extra options only appear once the master switch is on, and this card has its own **Save Changes** button.

## Where recordings live

Recordings are saved with each call in **Call Logs**, where you can play or download them alongside the call's transcript and notes.

## Consent

Call recording laws vary by jurisdiction — many places require you to tell callers they're being recorded, and some (including several US states) require consent from **all** parties. The **Call recording notification** / **Play recording announcement** settings are the built-in way to do this: callers hear that recording is on before the conversation starts. Check the regulations that apply to you *and your callers* — the caller's location can matter, not just yours — before enabling recording.

## FAQ

**Does turning on recording affect calls answered by the AI Receptionist?** AI Receptionist calls come with their own recordings and transcripts in **Call Logs** regardless of this setting — the per-number toggle governs regular calls to and from the number.

**Can I record just one direction, or one teammate's calls?** No — **Auto-record calls** applies to all calls on that number, both directions. The only per-recording control is **Record both parties**, which decides whether both sides of the audio are captured.

**I flipped the toggle but it jumped back off. What happened?** The save failed (usually a connectivity blip or missing permission) and the UI rolled back rather than showing a state that isn't real. Try again; only workspace admins can change number settings.

**Are recordings kept forever?** Recordings stay attached to their calls in **Call Logs**. Download anything you need to retain under your own compliance policy — and delete calls you're not allowed to keep.
