Caller ID

Choose which of your numbers people see when you call them — and understand why the display name is up to the carriers.

Choose your outbound caller ID

When you make outbound calls, you pick which number is displayed to the person you're calling. If you hold numbers in several countries, this lets you show a local number to local contacts — call London prospects from anywhere and display your London number.

Set your Default Caller ID in Settings → Call Settings — choose any of your LimePhone numbers or a verified external number. You can also pick a number per call from the From menu in the dialer.

Caller ID on forwarded calls

When a call is forwarded to your phone, choose what your handset displays: the original caller's number, or your LimePhone number (so you know it's a business call). This setting is also in Settings → Call Settings — see Call forwarding.

Caller ID name (CNAM) — what to expect

Your caller ID name (CNAM) is the business name some carriers display next to your number. There's no in-app CNAM setting — display is decided by the carriers. If clients report it isn't showing correctly, here's what's going on:

  1. Carrier policies. LimePhone submits your information to caller ID databases, but each carrier decides how it displays caller ID. Some don't update their CNAM databases regularly, or don't query them at all — so correct display can't be guaranteed for every recipient.

  2. Verify your listing. Use a third-party checker like calleridtest.com to see the caller ID information associated with your number.

  3. Canadian numbers. Canadian carriers may not automatically update their CNAM databases, so the name may display incorrectly — or not at all — depending on the recipient's carrier.

  4. Toll-free numbers. Toll-free numbers are designed to receive calls; CNAM listings aren't maintained for them, so they can't display an outgoing caller ID name.

If you don't have a custom caller ID name set, or a carrier doesn't perform the lookup, recipients simply see your LimePhone number.

If your calls display as "Scam Likely", that's a separate carrier-labeling issue — contact [email protected] and we'll help you get it addressed.
