# Manage a number

Configure everything about one phone number — its name, routing, sharing, recording, greeting, voicemail, and more.

Each number has two places to configure it:

* **The settings card** — open **Settings → Phone numbers** and select the number. Tabs: **General**, **Call routing**, **Users**, and **Call recording**.
* **The deeper settings page** — open it from the number, or from the sidebar: **Inboxes → ⋯ (three dots) → Manage settings**. This holds the connect greeting, hold music, voicemail, SMS auto-reply, and advanced routing.

Each number is managed individually, and only workspace admins can change number settings.

## Icon and name (General tab)

Give the number an icon and a name that make it easy to identify — "Sales line", "Support UK". The name appears wherever the number shows up in your dashboard.

## Status (General tab)

Enable or disable the number instantly. A disabled number stops taking calls and messages until you switch it back on.

## International calling and messaging (General tab)

Toggle whether this number can place international calls and send international messages.

## Share with teammates (Users tab)

Share the number with members of your workspace. Users can see and use this inbox from the side menu — they can view its calls and messages and use the number to make calls. Manage your teammates themselves in **Settings → Members**.

## Routing (Call routing tab)

Choose where incoming calls to this number go:

* **Voicemail** — send callers straight to voicemail.
* **Account owner** — ring you.
* **Team member** — ring a specific teammate.
* **Team** — ring a group of teammates.
* **AI Voice Agent** — let your AI Receptionist answer.
* **External number** — forward to an outside phone number.

See [Call forwarding](/phone-numbers/call-forwarding.md) for how each teammate chooses where *they* pick up, and [Call routing](/phone-numbers/call-routing.md) for ring timeouts and fallbacks.

## Call recording (Call recording tab)

Record calls on this number — see [Call recording](/phone-numbers/call-recording.md).

## On the Manage settings page

Open the deeper per-number page (from the number, or **Inboxes → ⋯ → Manage settings**) for:

### Connect greeting

A short message played to the caller before their call is connected — separate from the voicemail greeting. Choose **none**, **text-to-speech**, or an **audio file by URL**.

### Hold music

Play music while callers wait. Use the organization default or a custom audio file by URL.

### Voicemail

Enable voicemail and set the greeting — full details in [Voicemail](/phone-numbers/voicemail.md).

### SMS auto-reply

Send an automated text after calls or messages. Each trigger has its own customizable message:

1. After a call
2. After a missed call
3. After an incoming SMS
4. After an SMS outside business hours
5. After a call outside business hours
6. After a voicemail outside business hours

US numbers need 10DLC registration (**Settings → Trust center**) before auto-responses will reliably deliver.

### Advanced routing

Fine-tune ring timeouts and fallbacks — see [Call routing](/phone-numbers/call-routing.md).

## Release a number

To delete a number, choose **Release number** from the number's menu on the Phone numbers page. Releasing a number is permanent: you lose access to all calls and messages associated with it, and the number itself may not be recoverable. Consider disabling the number instead if you might need it again.
