# Call issues

Diagnose and fix the most common call problems: outbound calls that won't connect, calls marked failed, incoming calls going straight to missed, calls that drop the moment you answer, spam calls, and connection errors.

## Outbound calls not connecting

Work through these in order:

1. **Check your connection.** LimePhone needs a solid internet connection. Switch internet sources (Wi-Fi to mobile data or vice versa), or reset your router. Temporarily disable browser extensions, firewalls, or VPNs to rule them out. If your Call Logs show no record of the attempts, the calls never reached us — that points to a connection problem on your end.
2. **The destination may be busy or unavailable.** Sometimes the other carrier returns no error at all. The number may be temporarily unreachable, out of service, or may have blocked your number. If you can call some numbers but not one specific number, the problem is almost certainly with that number.
3. **Check for a LimePhone incident.** Rarely, we have trouble connecting to certain carriers. We'll notify you promptly if so; you can also check the status page linked from our website for current and historical incidents.
4. **Contact support.** If none of the above applies, reach out (see [Contact support](/troubleshooting/contact-support.md)) with specific example calls and how often it happens.

## Calls showing as "failed"

1. **International calling not enabled.** If you're calling a number outside the US or Canada, international calling must be enabled for your workspace. Check your plan and settings, or ask support to enable it.
2. **Blocked numbers.** If the recipient has blocked your number the call fails. Also check your own **Settings → Blocklist** — if the number is on it, remove it.
3. **The number can't take calls.** Some numbers (especially those tied to robocalls or scams) don't accept incoming calls at all. Verify the number is active.
4. **Refresh the app.** Close and reopen the app or browser tab — this clears minor glitches.
5. Still failing? Contact support with examples.

## Incoming calls going straight to missed

You get a missed-call notification but never heard it ring:

1. **The caller hung up early.** The most common cause — the caller disconnected before the call had time to ring you. This is more frequent if you have a phone menu/IVR: callers who hang up before choosing an option show as missed calls.
2. **Connection issues.** An unstable connection can prevent the ring from reaching you. Switch internet sources, reset your router, and temporarily disable extensions, firewalls, or VPNs.
3. **Your availability settings.** Several settings decide whether a call rings you:
   * **Do Not Disturb / availability** — if you're set unavailable, calls won't ring. Check **Settings → Availability**.
   * **Business hours** — calls outside your configured hours go to voicemail. Check **Settings → Business hours**.
   * **Call settings** — per-user routing preferences live in **Settings → Call Settings**; make sure calls are set to ring you.
4. **Push notifications disabled.** If notifications aren't allowed, you won't be alerted to incoming calls. See [Push notifications](/troubleshooting/push-notifications.md).

## Calls disconnect immediately when answered

1. **Automated verification calls.** Banks, financial services, and services like Apple or Uber that place 2FA/verification calls often refuse virtual/VoIP numbers. Their system hangs up the moment the call is answered — the ring-then-instant-disconnect pattern is the tell. This is a restriction on the caller's side, not a fault. See [Verification codes & virtual numbers](/troubleshooting/verification-codes-and-virtual-numbers.md).
2. **The caller disconnected.** If the caller hangs up within a second or two of you answering, it looks like a drop but isn't.
3. **Connection issues.** As above — switch internet sources, reset the router, rule out VPNs and firewalls.

If it keeps happening, send support: examples of recent affected calls, how often it happens, and what you've already tried.

## Spam calls

Two layers of defense:

* **Screen callers before they reach you.** An IVR menu or the AI Receptionist answering first filters out most robodialers, which hang up when a machine answers. Configure your answering flow under **AI Receptionist**, or set up call routing on your number in **Settings → Phone numbers**.
* **Block repeat offenders.** Go to **Settings → Blocklist**, add the number you want to block, and it will no longer reach you. Your blocked entries are listed there so you can remove them later.

## "Could not establish a connection. Try again momentarily."

This error (or "Check your device's network connection and try again") means the app can't reach our servers:

1. Check your internet connection — reset the router, try another network, or confirm you have a strong cellular signal.
2. Temporarily disable browser extensions, firewalls, or VPNs — these commonly block the connections VoIP needs.
3. Restart your device to refresh its network state.
4. Make sure you're on the latest version of the app.
5. If it persists, contact support.
