# Verification codes & virtual numbers

Can you use LimePhone to receive verification codes or register WhatsApp? No. LimePhone numbers are business lines for talking to your customers. They aren't meant for receiving sign-up or login codes from other services.

## Why codes don't arrive

* **Many services refuse virtual numbers.** Banks, payment apps such as PayPal, WhatsApp, Google, Facebook and others often won't send codes to them.
* **We filter one-time codes.** To protect our numbers from abuse, text messages that contain a verification code are filtered and don't appear in your inbox.
* **Many numbers can't receive texts at all.** Local numbers in the UK, Australia and most of Europe are voice-only.

Receiving verification codes isn't a supported use of LimePhone, and nothing in your settings changes this. For account verification, use a mobile number from your own carrier.

## WhatsApp

You can't register WhatsApp on a LimePhone number from the dashboard.

## What LimePhone numbers are good for

Business calls and texts with your customers, a second line for work, call forwarding, an IVR and the AI receptionist.

## Other virtual-number limitations to know

* **Emergency services:** VoIP numbers may not fully support emergency calling (911/999) because of location-tracking limitations.
* **Short codes:** texts sent from short codes may not reach virtual numbers. See [Message delivery issues](https://docs.limephone.io/troubleshooting/message-delivery-issues).
* **US texting:** sending texts to US numbers needs carrier (10DLC) registration. See [Trust center, 10DLC and compliance](https://docs.limephone.io/workspace/trust-center-10dlc-and-compliance).
* **Fair use:** high-volume calling or spam breaks our fair-usage policy and can lead to suspension.
