Restrictions

While virtual phone numbers offer flexibility and convenience, they are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Certain restrictions and limitations may apply depending on the provider and the specific type of virtual number:

  • OTP Verification: Limephone does not currently support receiving one-time passwords (OTPs) for verification purposes. If you need a phone number primarily for OTP verification, Limephone may not be the ideal solution for you.

  • KYC Requirements: Depending on your country of residence, you may be required to complete a KYC (Know Your Customer) verification process before obtaining a Limephone number. This process may involve providing additional documentation to verify your identity. Please check https://signup.limephone.io for current phone number availablity and KYC docs.

  • SMS in the USA: If you plan to use your Limephone number for sending SMS messages within the United States, please note that 10DLC (10-digit Long Code) compliance is required. This involves additional registration steps to ensure your messages are compliant with carrier regulations and avoid filtering.

Generic Limitations:

  1. Emergency Services: Virtual phone numbers, particularly those from VoIP providers, may not be compatible with emergency services (911/999) due to location tracking limitations. It's essential to check with your provider if emergency calling is supported and how it functions.

  2. SMS/MMS Limitations: Some virtual phone numbers may have restrictions on sending or receiving SMS/MMS messages. This can be due to carrier limitations or regulatory compliance requirements.

  3. International Calling Restrictions: Certain countries may have regulations on the use of virtual phone numbers for international calls, especially if the number appears to be from a different country. This can lead to call blocking or additional charges.

  4. Verification Services: Many online platforms and services require phone number verification for security purposes. However, some virtual phone numbers may not be accepted for verification due to concerns about temporary or disposable numbers.

  5. High-Volume Calling/Spam: Most virtual phone number providers have fair usage policies that restrict high-volume calling or using the number for spam or fraudulent activities. Violation of these policies can result in account suspension or termination.

  6. Porting Restrictions: Porting a virtual phone number (transferring it to another provider) may not always be possible, depending on the provider's policies and the type of number.

  7. Regulatory Compliance: Businesses using virtual phone numbers for specific purposes, such as telemarketing or financial services, may need to comply with industry-specific regulations and restrictions.
